Seeking Part-Time Board Member

Part-Time Board Member

The Forest Practices Board is an independent government agency that plays a vital part in sustainable forest management within BC. Under the Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA), the Board has a mandate to:

  • conduct periodic, independent audits of forest and range practices by licensees and of the adequacy of government enforcement;
  • investigate public complaints and initiate special investigations of forest and range practices;
  • appeal certain decisions to the Forest Appeals Commission; and
  • recommend improvements to practices, policy and legislation.

We are accepting expressions of interest from individuals respected by a wide range of forestry-interested publics who enjoy working as part of a team environment. As a Board member, you would bring a reputation for high standards, objective and balanced judgment, fairness and consistency. You thrive on objectively analyzing forestry/range issues of public importance and providing strategic and policy advice.

The successful candidate will have high ethical standards and integrity in professional and personal dealings, and exercise sound judgment and skill in carrying out assignments and in communicating with other public agencies or the public. Board members don’t represent any particular stakeholder group and must have the capability to take a broad perspective on issues that represents the public interest.

To reflect the diversity of our province, women, visible minorities, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, persons of diverse sexual orientation, gender identity, and others who may contribute to diversity in public sector tribunal appointments are encouraged to put their names forward for appointment. Given current Board membership and the need to ensure a diverse Board, preference may be given to applicants who possess the required qualifications and also:

  • identify as female, Indigenous, or a visible minority, and/or
  • have experience in non-timber resource management.

Prior to submitting your expression of interest, please review the documents: Notice of Position and Board Member Roles and Responsibilities, or contact Dave Clarke at (250) 213-4702. Your submission should clearly outline how you meet the selection criteria in the Notice of Position, including:
