Forestry Audit: BCTS and Timber Sale Licence Holders – Burns Lake Field Unit of the Babine Business Area
In August 2020, the Board audited BC Timber Sales’ (BCTS) forestry operations in the Burns Lake Field Unit portion of BCTS’s Babine Business Area, located in the Nadina Forest District near Burns Lake. The audit was a full scope compliance audit that included BCTS and timber sale licence (TSL) holder activities that took place over a two-year period starting in August 2018. During the audit period BCTS harvested about 333,000 cubic metres.
The audit found that BCTS and TSL holders generally complied with the Forest and Range Practices Act and the Wildfire Act, however, the audit identified a significant non-compliance for bridge maintenance practices in the Maxan Lake area and found that fire hazard assessment practices for several TSL holders require improvement.
